Speculative Films is a film production company out of San Francisco. We’re producing both narrative and documentary films, but all of our projects share this in common: What will the future bring?
Brett Marty is a commercial director, finally making the transition to filmmaking with his directorial debut: YOUTH. Before advertising, where he directed over 100 pieces for over 75 companies, Brett got his start as a documentary film editor. In previous lives, he studied ceramic sculpture at UC Berkeley, drove an old Buick from San Francisco to the tip of South America, and worked as a presidential campaign photographer for FiveThirtyEight (since acquired by the New York Times).
Josh Izenberg is a director, producer, and writer based in Oakland, California. He directed his first low-budget feature in the mountains of Appalachia and has since worked on documentary projects covering surfing veterans and Peruvian drug rehab. His short documentary, SLOMO, won over a dozen awards, including best short documentary at SXSW and the IDA award. It premiered as a New York Times Op-Doc. Josh hails from Michigan and is proud to have been, at different times, a cab driver, a carpenter, and a fishmonger.
