ABOUT // Speculative Films

Based in the San Francisco Bay Area — but happy to travel — we produce a mix of narrative, documentary, and commercial films about humanity's relationship to science, technology, and nature.

Whether working locally with a thirty-person crew or with a small band of filmmakers out in the field, we're interested in harnessing our keen interest in the world around us and the latest cinematic techniques to tell engaging stories.

BRETT MARTY // Director & Producer Brett Marty started as a commercial director and made the transition to long-form filmmaking with a handful of documentary projects and his narrative directorial debut: YOUTH. Before advertising – where he has directed over 75 pieces for over 50 companies – Brett worked as a documentary film editor. In previous lives, he studied ceramic sculpture at UC Berkeley, drove an old Buick from San Francisco to the tip of South America, and works as a photojournalist on the campaign trail during presidential elections.
